An Ornament a Day - Day 1

For the past two years I have participated in GeneaBloggers' Advent Calendar of Christmas Memories. This year, instead of repeating my posts, I have decided to feature a Christmas tree ornament each day from December 1 to December 25 and post a link to the original posts (I particularly recommend the December 6 post on Santa).

When it comes to ornaments, I like ...

... old-fashioned handmade ornaments. We bought this ornament (and two others similar to it in red and white) at a craft fair more than 25 years ago. These were so beautiful, I had to restrain myself from buying more than three - at $4 each, they seemed so expensive to me then....

Advent Calendar Day 1: The Christmas Tree

  1. Very pretty! I made a couple similar to that many years ago, and they were not easy to make. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest!

  2. I like this idea, Greta, of featuring a decoration a day, instead of repeating postings from previous years. Something I will bear in mind for next year!

  3. I love the idea of featuring ornaments. Some of my ornaments and Christmas decorations are very special to me and definitely part of my heritage.

  4. Greta, how creative on all accounts. I love the ornament, and I too am partial to handmade. Looking forward to see what you post.

  5. Greta, don't know if I will get around to an ornament a day, but last year as I took the tree down I photographed many of my favorite ornaments --- some just because they were old (back in the olden days of 1953 when we were first married), others handmade by children, some were gifts, but most I could tell the approximate year, where we were, ---all those little details.

So my friend, me thinks I will finish taking pictures this year --- and be ready next year. Of course, it might take years because I have WAY TOO many ornaments, at least so my kids tell me.

  6. I love the idea too, in fact, I had decided mid November to post an ornament a day, starting December 1st, of my mom's Christmas ornaments and decorations she collected over 50 + years. I started today on my photo blog - http://ginisology-photos.blogspot.com/2011/12/moms-christmas-tree-jewels-memory-count.html - I look forward to seeing your ornaments, Greta. Happy Holidays!

  7. Cynthia - These definitely look like extremely labor-intensive ornaments to make - not something i could do myself. I have been looking for more like these, but have never found them.

Susan - Yeah, I figured a third round would be too much; however, I put the links there for new readers, just in case.

Dee - I hope you post some of your ornaments - I love looking at ornaments!

Hummer - I just wish I could make ornaments like those... no talent for it, unfortunately.

Joan - I know what you mean about way too many ornaments - that's me. I can't get all of them onto one tree, so I sort of rotate them from year to year.

Gini - I love your photoblog and look forward to seeing the ornaments you post!
