  1. I LOVE gold finches. I haven't been a very good bird feeder in the past two summers. The feeders are all still up, but no food. I meant to correct that situation this summer, but here it is almost August and I haven't been to the bird store. I love your little fellow.

  2. Yup, we love him, too. We're getting a lot of action - finches, sparrows, cardinals, nuthatches, woodpeckers, plus ground feeders. There's a blackbird who's big enough to cause the cage (i.e., the squirrel-proofing mechanism) to go down, but he can still get his long beak in there. The woodpeckers are as stunning as this finch, with very strong contrast in the black and white markings. I'm a beginner, so it's still work figuring all the different types. Sometimes all four ports are filled, with three or four more hanging on and a bunch lined up on the deck railing waiting for their turn. And the fights are hysterical. Little birds can be so fierce! We eventually want to get a couple more feeders, but first we're going to get a birdbath. So now we're going to be not just crazy little old cat people, but crazy little old bird people, too.
