Wordy Wednesday: About That Happy Dance …

Here is the reason for it: above is a picture of (from right to left) my Great-Grandmother Susan Elizabeth Smith Bonner Brinlee, my Grandfather Lawrence Carroll Brinlee, my Great-Uncle Austin Franklin Brinlee, and my Great-Uncle Cecil Odell Brinlee. This picture was recently sent to me by Brinlee second cousin George at the request of another Brinlee second cousin, Raymond.

Receiving a picture of my relatives would be an occasion for a Happy Dance in any event, but this picture is extra special: it is the second picture I have ever seen of Lizzie, Austin, and Odell, and it is the first and only picture I have ever seen of my Grandfather Lawrence, who died before I was born.

This was an early birthday and Christmas present rolled into one. I even considered making this post my contribution to Smile for the Camera: Gift, but I had already written an entry.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about the generosity of my cousins on the Brinlee side who have sent me family pictures I had never seen: George B., Raymond P., Gale W. and Edna S. Thank you all – you are the best!

Wordy Wednesday: Volunteer Gourd

... aka "Squumpkin." So tagged by my husband, who noticed that a volunteer squash/cucurbit-type plant was growing along the edge of the wall on one side of our yard: "What is it, a squash, or pumpkin, or ...?" Now he is babying "Squumpkin" along, and soon we'll have ... lots of decorative gourds.

Wordy Wednesday: More from The Language of Cats – An Illustrated Glossary

Since I find it so difficult to be “wordless” in my Wednesday contributions, I decided to start a new tradition, “Wordy Wednesday,” which still involves one or more pictures, but the pictures will illustrate a term or will otherwise be accompanied by a lot of explanation. I will still participate in Wordless Wednesday when possible.

For my first Wordy Wednesday, I would like to add an item to my Illustrated Glossary of Cat Language. There were many of our cat pictures that I didn’t use for that glossary and we are taking more all the time, plus many of our family terms describing cats were not included in the Glossary. I would also like to feature occasional Mystery Pictures on Wordy Wednesday. So here goes.

Perching – Assuming a cute or artistic pose atop a home appliance or some other item that you might not think of as cat furniture.
